About Us

We are establishing Medicine for the Mind and will be registering to offer various Psychedelic Assisted Therapies in Queenstown, New Zealand in 2027.

Our intention is to offer a safe, respected and trusted service balancing clinical needs and the aspirations and hopes of our clients to achieve a better life with the use of Psychedelic Assisted Therapy.

What is Psychedelic Assisted Therapy?

Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PAT) combines carefully supervised use of medicines such as ketamine or psilocybin or MDMA with structured psychotherapy, helping the mind access and process difficult experiences in ways that talk therapy alone often can't reach. It's an emerging treatment option for people living with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and end-of-life distress, offered with full clinical support and supervision.

Journey work typically follows three stages: Preparation, where you and your therapist build trust and set intentions; the Journey or medicine session itself; and Integration, where insights from the experience are processed, understood and woven into everyday life.

Different medicines suit different clinical presentations and intentions. Which is right for you is best discussed with our team.

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

Ketamine has been used safely as an anaesthetic for decades. More recently, its ability to ease treatment-resistant depression and anxiety has made it a valuable tool in mental health care, offered here alongside psychotherapy to support deeper, more lasting change.

In New Zealand, ketamine is a Class C controlled drug and is prescribed off-label for mood disorders by a registered medical practitioner. It isn't Pharmac-funded for this use, but it is a legitimate, medically supervised treatment. Every course at Medicine for the Mind begins with a full clinical assessment, is delivered under direct medical supervision, and is paired with preparation and integration support, so the experience is safe and grounded in your goals.

Our clinic in Queenstown, NZ will be opening in 2026. Please contact support@medicineforthemind.co.nz for more information or to go on the waitlist.

Dr Pragati Gautama

Medical Director

Dr Pragati Gautama brings more than 30 years of medical experience to Medicine for the Mind, built across primary care, emergency medicine, rural hospital medicine, women's health, and palliative care in New Zealand, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. A Fellow of both the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine, her career has been shaped by working at the sharp end of medicine and in under-resourced settings. That experience taught her to listen first and think carefully before acting. Dr Gautama has recently completed Mind Medicine Australia's Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (CPAT)™, the region's leading clinical training in delivering MDMA, psilocybin, and ketamine-assisted therapy safely and skilfully. Her guidance, depth of clinical experience, and evidence-led approach means you will be well supported in your journey.
